As a rose breeder, several award winners in NRTGA (10), 3 growing in Government house Gardens. Sydney (100 Not Out for the Centenary of the RSNSW, The Governor’s Wife selected by Mrs Hurley to honour the contributions of the wives of the NSW Governors and BBM Centenary selected to celebrate the centenary of the Big Brother Movement)

Has been interested in gardening all her life

Has bred at least 50 of the 114 jointly registered roses, making her the most successful and significant female rose breeder in Australian history
As a partnership
Ruth brought clarity and focus to the process
Has developed significant skills in propagating, both own root and budded plants
Looks at breeding through the eyes of an artist, where colour and fragrance count…Ruth has made Minis and Minifloras her main focus while Richard has focussed on the traditional (exhibition) HT, two types of rose we do not often see among the imported varieties of late.
